Social Media Safety

While having an active social media account is part of being an ambassador, please know that MBP wants to prioritize safety. Accounts can be public or private. If your dancer's account is private, please always post your MBP image posts to stories in addition to your grid and tag "mandybethphoto.dance" so that MBP can share, as cross promotion is a goal of the program.

MBP routinely screens followers and story viewers - I am liberal with the block button if I even get a whiff of inappropriateness. If there is ever an account that I need to be aware of, please let me know.

Review the following tips to help safeguard your dancer's account:

• regularly review followers and story viewers - accounts that don't have mutual ties to the local dance community need extra scrutiny
• examine the each follower’s profile carefully - be cautious of accounts with generic usernames, no posts, or limited information (also view the type of accounts they follow)
• inappropriate profiles should be blocked and reported to Instagram
• disable direct messages from people who aren’t following the account to reduce unwanted contact
• set up Instagram’s comment moderation feature, which filters out inappropriate words and phrases
• review comments on posts regularly, especially on high-engagement posts
• bots often have blank profiles, random strings of numbers or letters as usernames, or posts that are unrelated to dance
• you can disable the option to allow others to tag your child, preventing unapproved tags
• turn on two-factor authentication to ensure that only authorized users can access the account. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step, such as a code sent to your phone
