I recently had the pleasure of photographing one of my favorite small businesses – Hot Chocolates of Hurst, Texas. This fantastic bakery has been churning out cakes and goodies for over 13 years and has been a tasty part of memorable events for our family – our wedding day, baby showers, birthdays, etc. (Their cakes truly taste as good as they look!) Hot Chocolates has also been highly involved in our community for several events and I’m inspired by their example.
A few days before Valentine’s Day, I slipped in for a bit to capture the “sweet” magic behind the scenes. I was a fly on the wall and loved documenting everyone in their element. It was neat to see these ladies in action and how effortless they make the process look (especially to someone that struggles in the kitchen).
I learned that they have fun tastes in music (which is played when decorating) and that they do all of their dishes by hand (with a smile, even). There is a lot of work and detail that goes into making these confections – I have so much admiration for this craft.
A special thanks to Becky, Lori, and Molly for allowing me to document the pre-Valentine’s Day bustle – it was super cool to see everything come together!
(…and now I need to order a cake!)
